The Jewish Welfare Board, the national organization for Y.M.H.A.’s, Y.W.H.A.’s, and Jewish Community Centers throughout the United States and Canada, has just completed for the Young Men’s and Young Women’s Hebrew Association of Elizabeth, N. J., a survey of the recreational and cultural resources of the Jewish community of that city.
The purpose of the survey is to enable the association to plan a comprehensive, community-wide program of activities in its new building, which will be formally dedicated on Sunday, June 8. The building was constructed at a cost of $190,000, including equipment.
The survey calculates that the Jewish population of Elizabeth is 7,500. The calculation of the Jewish populations of Linden, N. J., and Roselle, N. J., which adjoin Elizabeth, is 5,000, and the survey indicates that the new building is centrally located with reference to the sections of Elizabeth in which the Jewish population resides.
