Hersch Heger, a Jewish merchant, was stabbed to death today by a peasant from the village of Rina. The attack was without provocation. After his arrest the peasant declared he had committed the murder to “demonstrate my adoration and reverence for Cuza,” the leader of the anti-Semitic group in Roumania whose recent election to Parliament has been the signal for a revival of anti-Semitic excesses in all parts of the country.
In a number of other villages Jews were reported attacked by peasants.
