The loss to Great Britain of the friendship of the Jews is likely by the probable resignation of Dr. Chaim Weizmann, president of the Jewish Agency, as a result of the situation created in the Zionist movement by the suspension of immigration to Palestine declares the “Manchester Guardian” today.
Pointing out that Dr. Weizmann “throughout has staked everything on his loyalty to the British government and has defended it stoutly on hundreds of platforms at great risk to himself against the Revisionists (opposition to the Weizmann regime) and other critics,” the “Guardian” says “his position is rapidly becoming impossible and hints have even been heard of his resignation as head of the Zionist Organization.
“It is hard to imagine the Zionist Organization without Weizmann, for the whole movement is his creation. Under any new hands this international organization will certainly be far less friendly to this country. No sooner had we cured the cancer of Ireland in our international relations than the indecision of MacDonald makes a worse one of Jewry.”
