by the Roumanian legation in Washington confirmed reports in the Bucharest papers that Premier Maniu would take into consideration the decisions of a special congress of the Jewish communities before drafting the final regulations governing the application of the law.
Shortly after the Maniu government came into power the entire Jewry of Roumania was aroused by the abolition, without consulting the Jewish members of parliament or the organized Jewish community, of the law passed under the Bratianu regime which recognized the Jews as constituting one unified cult and a single community. In place of this law the Maniu government passed another one which if put into effect would have created chaos in the Jewish community. Roumanian Jewry has unanimously opposed the new law.
