Disturbing reports have reached here of anti-Semitic agitation in the Bukowinan towns of Kimpollung, Doranavtra, Vama and Surabumorol, according to the Bucharest daily “Adverul” which says these reports have been received by the Czernowitz authorities. The same report says that these towns are making preparations for excesses on the occasion of the arrival of the anti-Semitic agitator, Ceyla Codreanu.
The police prefect and the commandant have ordered the gendarmerie in the region to hold their posts in readiness for any trouble. In the meantime it is reported that a number of Jews have fled from Vama and a Jewish deputation from Bukowina has called on the authorities together with Senator Ebner.
Anti-Semitic excesses harm the country economically and financially, Professor Andrei of Jassy University declared in the parliamentary Chamber today in supporting Professor Cuza’s motion to set aside a day for a debate on anti-Semitism. Professor Andrei, who is vice president of the Chamber, said that since Professor Cuza entered the Chamber parliament he had raised the anti-Semitic question constantly and it was therefore advisable to deal with the question fully and condemn it.
Mice Popo, president of the Chamber, explained that that was impossible as the Chamber was working overtime to rush through essential measures before adjournment.
Jewish circles here are somewhat disturbed at the official announcement that Prince Carol has returned. It is feared that internal opposition to Carol may result in disorders which will inevitably have an unfavorable effect for the Jews.
