S. J. Volpert, a life-long resident, has been appointed a trustee on the Lake Placid Village Board to fill a vacancy caused by the resignation of Walter Kennedy. Mr. Volpert has been president of the Lake Placid Synagogue since its organization.

This is believed to be the first time in the history of this internationally-known resort that a Jew has been elected or appointed to a post in conducting municipal affairs.
