Magistrate Hyman Rayfiel of Brooklyn is one of the two city magistrates whom Mayor Walker yesterday promoted to the Court of Special Sessions to fill one of the three justiceships created by the New York City Board of Estimate a few weeks ago. Magistrate Rayfiel, who was appointed to his present post in 1915, has less than a year left of his term.

Judge Rayfiel has been one of the pioneers and leaders of the Brownsville and East New York community. His appointment to the Court of Special Sessions marks the first appointment of a Jew from Brooklyn to this court.
