The murder last week of Sholom Landau, the Jewish leader of Uriev, and the panicky appeals of the Uriev Jews for further protection resulted today in the despatch by the government of a special official from Bucharest to investigate the situation there and to conduct personally the case against Landau’s murderer, the former professor Machedon, who is now in the Uriev jail.
The Jewish community of Uriev has decided to provide for Landau’s family which consists of his wife and six children ranging in age from 3 to 18. Special precautions are being taken to prevent any anti-Semitic incidents today during Landau’s funeral.
