The Maniu cabinet, which last week offered to resign because of the continued anti-Semitic disturbances, will probably remain in office, at least until the coronation ceremonies of King Carol which will take place in September, the Jewish Telegraphic Agency is reliably informed. This, however, does not exclude the possibility that Dr. Alexander Vayda Voevod, minister of the interior, will resign before that.
It is understood that Dr. Vayda Voevod is extremely dissatisfied that the entire blame for the anti-Semitic events is put on him. He is also resentful of the criticism in the press, even the government papers, and he feels hurt that he is still suspected of keeping in touch with the anti-Semitic leaders, although M. Tazladanu, his anti-Semitic aide, is no longer chief of his cabinet.
Meanwhile a strict investigation is being continued to establish from what source the anti-Semitic organization, the Iron Guard, is obtaining its funds. Although the investigation, which is being directed by Victor Cadere, chief of the secret police, has thus far been unproductive of any results, it is reported that one of the by-laws of the Iron Guard, which are kept secret, provides that any member who discloses its secrets will be murdered.
Three prominent members of the Iron Guard today invaded the office of the Bucharest newspaper, “Adevarul,” and demanded that the editor publish an article white-washing the organization, and threatened his life. The invaders were unceremoniously thrown out of the office.
