Meyer Zettel, a seventy-year old Jewish poultry dealer from Kielce, was today decorated with a silver service medal and granted a government concession and monopoly in the sale of certain commercial articles. The award was made for Zettel’s rescue of three Polish legionnaires in 1914 during the retreat of the army and the Cossack march.
The three legionnaires whom he saved sixteen years ago now occupy prominent positions in the Polish army.
