The preliminaries for the projected railway line from Bagdad to Haifa have been arranged for, Reuters reports, saying that surveying for the line will begin as soon as cool weather sets in. Naturally the construction of this new railway to the Mediterranean Sea implies the construction of the great Mosul pipe line from the Iraq oil fields.
According to Reuters, it is now decided that this pipe line will start at a point near Bagdad and extend for over 400 miles through Iraq across Transjordania and then through Palestine to Haifa.
The exact location of the Mediterranean terminus of the Mosul pipe line which will carry the oil from the Mosul fields in Iraq to the Mediterranean has long been a subject of discussion and dispute between the British and French interests in the Iraq Petroleum Company which owns the concession to the Mosul fields. The French have been seeking to have the Mediterranean terminus at Tripoli in Syria, which is under a French mandate, while the English have naturally desired the pipe line to end at Haifa in Palestine where the English rule.
King Feisel of Iraq was recently in Germany negotiating with German industrialists for the construction of the railroad from Bagdad to Haifa.
