With $158,000 still missing to complete its $500,000 quota for the year 1930 to round out American Jewry’s contribution towards carrying out the land purchase program for the current year, committees and workers of the Jewish National Fund of America, the agency of the Zionist movement for the acquisition of land in Palestine, have undertaken to make special efforts during the High Holiday season for “going over the top.”
The decision to raise $500,000 for the Jewish National Fund in the United States was reached unanimously at an enthusiastic Conference of American Zionists held in Philadelphia, Pa., on January 19, 1930. To date the Jewish National Fund income netted $342,000, notwithstanding the fact that no special campaigns or “drives” were held in any of the 750 Jewish communities where Jewish National Fund committees are functioning. The special efforts will aim at enlisting the interest and contributions of worshippers whose attendance at synagogue during the High Holidays reaches nearly 100 per cent. Appeals in behalf of the Fund will be made in many synagogues throughout the country.
