Indications that Italy considers that a settlement of the differences evoked by the Palestine disturbances of last year would not be sufficient and that it is the Palestine Mandate itself which should be discussed are reported by the Rome correspondent of the Journal de Geneve, edited by William Martin. This report is prominently contained in an article headed “Towards Revision of the Palestine Mandate.”
Calling attention to the large amount of space devoted in the Fascist press to the report of the Mandates Commission on Palestine and to the British government’s reply to that report, the Journal’s correspondent notes that many Italian papers have expressed the hope that it will be possible for the Vatican to take action and throw into the balance the rights of Roman Catholics in Palestine which are said to be unrecognized up to now.
