The Italian delegation to the meeting of the Council of the League of Nations which opens here Monday will endeavor to utilize the report of the Mandates Commission on Palestine and the discussion on the report to obtain more rights for the Catholics of Palestine, it is learned from a survey made by the Jewish Telegraphic Agency among the delegates of the various countries in regard to their attitude on the Mandates Commission’s report.
FRANCE AND POLAND
France and Poland will abstain from participating in the discussions on the report but will support the conclusions of the Mandates Commission. In League circles the certainty prevails that the Mandates Commission’s report with the additional recommendations of Hjalmar Procope, the Council’s rapporteur on mandates, will be adopted.
In the meantime, Arthur Henderson, British foreign secretary, saw M. Procope today regarding the Mandates Commission’s report, and the Jewish Telegraphic Agency understands that Mr. Henderson is trying to influence Procope to modify certain paragraphs in his report. Procope has already sent out his report to members of the Council for advance study.
BRITISH DELEGATION
The British delegation, which includes in addition to Mr. Henderson, Dr. Drummond Shiels, under-secretary for the Colonies, Sir John Hope Simpson, and Sir John Chancellor, High Commissioner for Palestine, is the largest that has ever attended any session. Unofficial Arab representatives are here seeking contacts with the various delegations and newspaper-men covering the Council’s sessions. There is an unverified rumor current that King Feisal is due here on Monday, in time for the opening session.
