Dr. Karl Landsteiner, eminent scientist, was awarded the Nobel prize for medicine. Dr. Landsteiner who has been connected with the Rockefeller Institute for Medical Research since 1922, was born in Vienna in 1868. He is noted for his work in the fields of bacteriology and pathology. The prize amounts to about $48,000 and was granted to him for his discoveries in classifying different types of human blood.

Before joining the Rockefeller Institute Dr. Landsteiner had been pathologist for the University of Vienna from 1909 to 1919.
