The Jewish people must unite in a vigorous effort to resist the enactment of the policies outlined in the latest British White Paper on Palestine, or else “the status of Jews in countries governed by international law will be adversely affected,” according to a statement issued yesterday by Dr. Stephen S. Wise and Robert Szold, in an appeal for contributions to the Zionist Emergency Fund, of which Dr. Wise is chairman. Mr. Szold is chairman of the Administration of the Zionist Organization of America, which launched the Fund to promote activities “for the protection of Jewish rights under the Palestine Mandate.”

Declaring that “public opinion must be informed of the truth regarding Jewish aspirations and achievements in Palestine,” the statement by the Zionist leaders asserts that “never in modern times have the Jewish people been confronted with so grave and decisive a situation as presses upon them today.” Dr. Wise and Mr. Szold also say that the foundations of the Jewish National Home “stand threatened. Impelled by political expediency, members of the present British Government are attempting to destroy the Balfour Declaration and to set back Jewish history for several centuries. A weighty responsibility rests upon all Jews to resist this attempt.”

The statement was sent to the chairmen of all Zionist districts throughout the United States and to leading Jews everywhere.
