The adjourned conference between representatives of the Jewish Agency and the British government which was supposed to resume its sessions today did not reconvene and has been postponed for a few days when the government will be ready with a full reply to presentations made by the Jewish Agency’s spokesmen. It was expected that a joint statement would be issued today by the government and the Jewish Agency, but the Colonial Office informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency that such a statement would not be forthcoming.
It is learned that while the government is interested in regaining immediately the confidence of the Jews, there nevertheless exists a sentiment that the Zionists, if they cannot forget the original White Paper, will be wise to accept it with “explanations and amplifications” to which Dr. Drummond Shiels, under-secretary for the Colonies, referred during the parliamentary debate on Palestine last week.
