The reported application by Norman Bentwich, attorney-general of Palestine who is now in London, for an extended leave of absence has given rise to rumors here that this is preliminary to his resignation. On the other hand it is said that the Colonial Office has requested him to remain in office in connection with pending legislation.
Ever since the riots of 1929, Bentwich has been under continual fire from the Arabs because he is a Jew. While the Shaw Commission was sitting, an attempt was made to assassinate him.
