The Solomon Lewenberg School in Mattapan, named in honor of a Jew, was dedicated tonight with Mayor Curley as one of the speakers. This is the first time in the history of Boston Jewry that a school was dedicated here in honor of a Jew. The late Mr. Lewenberg was accorded the honor for his conspicuous service to the community. He was especially interested in welfare projects in the Dorchester district, and was appointed to the Gas and Electric Light Commission by Governor McCall. Mr. Lewenberg was a member of the Board of Trustees of Temple Ohabei Shalom.
The dedication tonight was attended by Mrs. Rachel Lewenberg, his widow, and five of his children. Councillor Israel Ruby was instrumental in having this school named in honor of Mr. Lewenberg.
