Professor Albert A. Michelson, the 79 year old famous scientist and Nobel Prize Vinner, is suffering from a severe nervous breakdown, as the result of overwork on his experiments, his physician states. Although he is not dangerously ill, he will have to remain in bed for about a month.
Professor Michelson’s death was erroneously reported last year in the entire European press, including the London newspapers, the London J.T.A. being practically alone in not carrying the report, which enquiry in New York showed to have been incorrect.
Professor Michelson has been in bad health for a long time, and in the latter part of 1929 he was reported to be at the point of death. He made a remarkable recovery, however, and returned to his work, and when Professor Einstein was in California recently Professor Michelson reached the climax of his many years’ experiments in measuring the speed of light, which are regarded as the starting point of Einstein’s Theory of Relativity.
