England does not want calendar reform, the “Morning Post” writes to-day. The League of Nations last autumn set up the British Calendar Reform Committee with the object of obtaining representative British opinion on the subject. Upwards of 4,000 copies of a questionnaire were circulated, but so far barely 200 have troubled to answer, and these show an overwhelming majority in favour of no change. An official of the Committee told the “Morning Post” that so far the questionnaire had been rather a farce.
England is not alone in its lack of enthusiasm, France, Spain and Italy are all regarded as hopeless by the advocates of reform. Apart from the United States, all countries, European and non-European alike, are regarding the new calendar in a spirit of amused and not particularly sympathetic detachment, it adds.
