Amsterdam has had an unaccustomed experience this week, with a number of Hitlerists from Germany descending upon the city and trying to engage here in the kind of molestation of Jews in the streets that has become frequent in Germany. A German motor car drew up outside a restaurant in the Rembrandtplein, flying the Hitlerist flag, and the occupants displaying big swastika badges. People of Jewish appearance were insulted, and they kept up a continuous shout of “Dirty Jews! Down with the Jews!”. Finally a crowd of Jews and non-Jews made a rush at the Germans, and it was only under strong police protection that the Hitlerists were able to make their escape.
