The Jewish Federation has announced the consolidation of the Welfare Bureau for Jewish Children and the Dorthy Drey Sommers Home for Children. The new Agency known as the Blanche and David Sommers Children’s Welfare Bureau, will be supported by the Jewish Federation and the income from the $250,000 gift of the late David Sommers to the Shelter Home.

Sommers, who died in 1925, took over the support of the Shelter Home in 1912 as a memorial to his wife and two small daughters who were killed in an auto accident. The Welfare Bureau for Jewish Children was established five years ago to place children in foster homes.
