Rumours with regard to a contemplated coup d’etat by the National Socialists are circulating to-day in Berlin, causing great anxiety among the Jewish population.
According to these rumours a serious movement seems to be afoot within the National Socialist Party for utilising the present situation for an armed rising against the Government.
The extreme leaders in the National Socialist Party have developed during the last fortnight an intense effort for winning over the Party to their views of the necessity of a putsch. The serious stage of this development is indicated by a reputed circular emanating from the National Socialist Headquarters which definitely singles out those officers of the German Army (the Reichswehr) who are supposed to be in favour of a Hitlerist revolt.
While it is impossible to obtain definite confirmation of these reports, there are a number of symptoms which indicate that the next fortnight may see Germany in a turmoil of violent and epic-making events. The atmosphere is charged with tension.
HITLERIST NEWSPAPERS CALL FOR OUSTING OF JEWISH DOCTORS: STUDENTS ORGANISE ANTI-JEWISH CELLS.
The “Angriff”, as well as the “Voelkischer Beobachter”, the central organs of the Hitlerists, appear to-day containing articles calling for the hounding out of Jewish doctors from medical clinics all over the country. These articles reveal that Hitlerist “fighting cells” have been organised in every hospital throughout the country for the purpose of getting rid of the Jewish doctors.
The Medical Section of the Hitlerist Student Organisation publishes to-day in the “Angriff” a report saying that during the coming autumn semester, the activities of this Section will be concentrated on decreasing the number of Jewish medical students to a minimum. “We are determined that a numerus clausus should be put in force in respect to Jewish students in the medical schools, and in time we expect this numerus clausus to become a numerus nullus”, the report of the Hitlerist Medical Section states.
