The Greek press here has just published reports of a protest meeting held recently in Paris against the Salonica disturbances, at which one of the speakers alleged that 20 Jews had been killed and hundreds injured. The report has caused considerable indignation here, and the Acting Chief Rabbi, Rabbi Chaim Habib, asks the J.T.A. to give it a categorical denial. Only two deaths occurred as a result of the outbreak, he points out, one victim being a Christian, and the other a Jew, and only a few people were injured, all having since completely recovered. The Government, he adds, has promised to pay compensation to make good all material damage caused by the outbreak.
