President Hoover sent a message of greeting and good wishes to the opening meeting held in Philadelphia today, launching the Philadelphia drive of the American Palestine Campaign. The message was delivered by the United States Minister of Agriculture, Mr. Arthur M. Hyde, who addressed the meeting.
Dr. Cyrus Adler, the Chairman of the Administrative Committee of the Jewish Agency, was the chief speaker.
Judge Leopold C. Glass presided. Other speakers were Judge William M. Lewis, Rabbi Max D. Klein, and Miss Hortense Levy.
President Hoover sent a message in January to the dinner at which the Pro-Palestine Committee of members of the United States Congress was formed, on the initiative of Mr. Emanuel Neuman, and headed by Mr. Curtis, the Vice-President of the United States. “I am interested to learn”, he wrote, “that a group of distinguished men and women is to be formed to spread knowledge and appreciation of the rehabilitation which is going forward in Palestine under Jewish auspices, and to add my expression to the sentiment among our people in favour of the realisation of the age-old aspirations of the Jewish people for the restoration of their National Homeland.
Mr. Arthur M. Hyde, the United States Secretary of Agriculture, was one of the guests attending the dinner and is a member of the American Palestine Committee which was formed there.
