An amicable settlement of differences between the Hebrew Actors Union and the theatrical managers representing the Yiddish theatres in this city was arrived at as the result of a conference held on Tuesday.
In accordance with the agreement reached, all moneys from benefit performances in Yiddish theatres are to be deposited in a joint bank account. Appeals for funds during intermission of performances are to be abolished as well as the free list. Hawking of candy and soft drinks are likewise to be barred.
The wage scale of Yiddish actors will be revised downward, those receiving more than $65 per week to receive cuts ranging from 25 to 30 percent, while those receiving less than $65 are to receive a $10 pay cut.
A further meeting to discuss unemployment in the theatrical field will be held next week.
A plan to place a fixed tax on theatre seats to raise an unemployment fund was discussed and was referred to a committee for further consideration.
Announcement has been made of the organization in Chicago of the Association of Jewish Blind. It’s aim is the social, intellectual and vocational advancement of the sightless. Jacob Richter is president of the organization. Other officers are Abraham Lewitz, vice-president; Jeanette Kuttner, secretary; Max Kupperman, treasurer, and M. Bolotin, chairman of activities.
