An Emergency Aid for Jewish Artists has been formed upon the initiative of members of the Women’s Organization of Central Synagogue, and is sponsoring an exhibition of paintings to aid indigent Jewish artists. The exhibition is to be held at the Central Synagogue Community House, from November 1st to 20th.
The pictures are to be purchased from needy Jewish artists, and are to be selected by outstanding art critics. For each work of art, whether wood-cut, painting, or etching, the artist is to receive $25, and in order to raise the necessary funds for the purpose, books of 25 subscriptions at $1 each, have been issued. Every book, when filled, will entitle the individual or organization to one picture, which will be awarded after the exhibit, to be disposed of as the group see fit.
Mrs. Seymour A. Goodman is Chairman of the Emergency Aid for Jewish Artists, and among the patrons are: Mrs. Julius Ochs Adler, Mrs. Sidney C. Borg, Mrs. Samuel Lamport, Dr. Frederick B. Robinson, Mrs. Jacob H. Schiff, Mrs. Arthur Hays Sulzberger, and Mrs. Stephen S. Wise.
The work of the Emergency Aid for Jewish Artists is endorsed by such organizations as the New York State Federation of Temple Sisterhoods, the Federation of Jewish Women’s Organizations, Inc., and others.
