The Jewish Community in Smyrna is on the verge of collapse owing to the stringencies imposed by the Turkish government, the Turkish Jewish press indicate.

The papers point out that in the last seven years, Jewish institutions and Jewish life have been steadily retrogressing in Smyrna. The Jewish population of Smyrna shows a decrease of 25,000 during this period while eight large schools, seven Jewish newspapers and three Talmud Torahs have been closed.
