In celebration of his fortieth anniversary as rabbi of the Oheb Shalom Congregation, the Rev. Dr. William Rosenau was given a testimonial banquet at the Lord Baltimore Hotel by members of his congregation which was attended by 580 persons.
Dr. Rosenau was presented with a Hebrew Bible 175 years old. One copy of the Bible is said to be in the Vatican, another in the British Museum and a third in a museum in France. The gift was from Morris Schwartzberg, in whose family the Bible has been treasured for many years.
Addresses were made by Samuel J. Fisher, president of the congregation; Mrs. Julius S. Hecht, president of the sisterhood; Isidor Goldstrom, president of the brotherhood, and Rabbi Abram Simon, of Washington. Leonard A. Hecht was toastmaster.
A tableau, covering the career of Dr. Rosenau, was presented. It depicted not only his work as rabbi here but his professorship in Semitic languages for many years at the Johns Hopkins University.
