Goglu Publication in New Attack Upon Jews for “international Finance”

The local anti-Semitic publications have temporarily ceased exploiting the blood ritual accusation but they have found a new field for their activities.

Recently one J. J. Harpell, the publisher of the financial publication, “Journal of Commerce,” was arrested on the charge of libellous slander after publishing a series of articles purporting to show that the Sun Life Assurance Company is on the verge of bankruptcy and that its officials have been manipulating with figures on the same grand scale as the deceased Swedish Match King, Ivar Krueger, and the Insull Bros. of Chicago.

Although it is well-known that Harpell is a Gentile with no greater love for the Jew than for Sun Life officials, “Le Miroir,” one of the trio of the anti-Semitic Goglu publications, appeared with a venomous attack against Harpell who is stated to be a Jew and a tool in the hands of international Jewish financiers who are out to destroy the well-known Canadian Life Insurance Company.

Continuing in its exploitation of the new so-called Jewish plot, “Le Miroir” last week concocted a story that a few Jewish millionaires in New York have made every endeavor to gain control of the Sun Life, having even offered as much as $4,000 for each of the company’s shares. Having failed in their endeavor, says the Goglu publication, the Jewish financiers hired Harpell to destroy the Canadian Company. The same publication even hints that the former Mayor Camilien Houde, whom it once championed, will become the French editor of Harpell’s “Journal of Commerce” and help the latter preach his “Jewish Bolshevist doctrinces.” For the ex-mayor “Le Miroir” has now only this to say: “As far as two years ago we have stated that Houde is a dangerous radical who is infecting the province with communist ideas. He is a Jew in mentality.”

It is not yet clear why the Goglus are championing the cause of the Sun Life, but it is incomprehensible why they should attack Harpell who is of their ilk when it comes to Jew-baiting. The same Harpell also believes that the Jews are ruining world finance and has republished in an October issue the unsavory poem by Rudyard Kipling concerning the Fifth River of Paradise, and prefaced it with the following introduction.

“When the Israelites arrived on the scene (Paradise) the Lord had no river to assign to them, so he suggested the river of gold, on the banks of which they have been living ever since. Until lately this river of gold had no reservoir out of and into which it might flow. Such a reservoir has recently been completed two hundred feet into the earth under the City of Paris, the present headquarters of the House of Rothschild, the world’s greatest gold mongers.”
