A total of only 2,503 visas were issued yesterday to immigrants to enter the United States out of a possible 150,928 during the fiscal year ended June 30th, according to a tabulation made public by the Department of State.

Of the total visas granted in that period, 1,417 were preference and 1,086 non-preference.

The small number of visas granted was said at the Department of State to have been due to the strict enforcement of the immigration laws.

The greatest number of visas, 418, were granted to immigrants from Great Britain and Northern Ireland. Next came Germany, with 405, and third Italy, with 350. No visas were granted in the case of 20 countries.
