Anti-Jewish incidents occurred today at the University of Breslau in connection with the introductory lecture delivered by a newly appointed professor, Ernst Cohn, who is a Jew.
Professor Cohn and Jewish students were attacked and beaten by the Nazis after the police had twice been summoned by the rector to maintain order.
At the opening of Professor Cohn’s lecture, the Nazis raised such an uproar that Rector Brockelmann summoned the police who expelled the demonstrants.
When the lecture was resumed, the Nazis took seats on the front benches and began to heap abuse upon Cohn, singing anti-Jewish songs.
For a second time the police were summoned. This time they accompanied Professor Cohn from the University. Undaunted, the Nazis attacked
Cohn and several Jewish students who accompanied them. The police were unable to withstand the onslaught and reserves had to be called out to protect the Jewish professor.
Measures will be taken to protect Professor Cohn during his lectures, the University authorities announce.
