The Colonial Office officially informed the Jewish Telegraphic Agency today that there is no truth in the report that Lewis French, who resigned as Palestine Land Commissioner, has been replaced by his assistant, Andrews.
The Colonial Office declares that Mr. Andrews is simply carrying on the work of the Land Development Department since Mr. French’s resignation. Neither the Land Development Scheme nor the Land Development Department have been abolished.
The future course which the Land Development Scheme will take has not been settled as yet. Until definite decision is reached the same staff, with the exception of Mr. French, will carry on the work, the Colonial Office stated.
The Development Scheme refers to the £2,500,000 Loan which Great Britain had planned to float for Palestine land development.
