Failing by $177,000 to complete its 1932 budget for the support of 91 affiliated philanthropies, the Federation for the Support of Jewish Philanthropic Societies, by special action of its board of trustees, announced yesterday that the books would be kept open until January 12 in a last effort to wipe out the impending deficit.
According to an announcement by Paul Felix Warburg and Ira M. Younker, campaign chairmen, the action of the board of trustees offers the one remaining hope of completing the Federation budget. If the campaign had been closed on the date originally set, December 31st, the deficit of $177,000 would have meant further curtailment of essential services for the needy, the sick, the orphaned and the aged at a time when the demand for such services is greater than ever before.
In the nine days remaining before the books are finally closed, it is the hope of the campaign chairmen that those who have pledged subscriptions and donations will make payment and a sufficient number of new gifts will be received to balance the budget.
