The National Socialist Party gained nine seats in the Diet of the state of Lippe Detmold, northwest Germany, in an election which may have a far reaching effect on the Nazi attitude toward the Reichstag.
The Nazis, who had been reported on the down grade, and who failed to win a single seat in last November’s elections to the Lippe Diet, won nine of the twenty-one seats, gaining 38,844 votes of the total of 98,500 cast.
Buoyed by this victory, Adolph Hitler, who took a personal part in the election campaign, may decide against supporting the postponement of the Reichstag until March and may bring about new elections by voting non-confidence in Chancellor von Schleicher.
