The suggestion that the British Government should take the initiative in urging the League of Nations to raise a fund for Jewish refugees from Germany was made by George Lansbury, Labor M.P., at a protest meeting called last night by the Labor Party in Albert Memorial Hall. No single nation, Lansbury stated, is in a position to take in all the refugees from Germany, but the League of Nations has in the past repeatedly raised funds for refugees.
Mr. Lansbury further stressed the necessity of immediately planning for the reception of Jewish refugees in Palestine. The request that the British government should bring the problem of German Jewish refugees before the League of Nations will shortly be made by members of the Labor Party in the House of Commons.
Other speakers included Sir Stafford Cripps, Susan Lawrence and Joseph Compton, Chairman of the Labor Party. Their references to the Jewish persecution in Germany were received with stormy expressions of sympathy.
