The non-Aryan population of Germany, according to the Nazi standard, which regards the existence of one non-Aryan grandparent as proof of a contaminating strain, will not be determined in the next census of the population of Berlin, which is to take place on June 16, it was learned today. The questionnaires prepared for the gathering of statistics on the population do not inquire into the religion of the person’s grandparents.
It was pointed out that this by no means indicated that the Nazis will abandon their intention of extending their anti-Semitic activity to all persons who have had a Jewish grandparent. Verbal evidence given to census-takers is regarded as insufficiently exact in the determination of the Jewish strain. Family registers will be investigated instead, as offering more certain evidence of Jewish origin.
