The readiness of the Spanish Government to grant Spanish citizenship to Sephardic Jews if the applicants are in a legal position to accept citizenship, was annouinced today by former Foreign Minister Luis de Zaluetta in the course of a press conference when he was asked to elaborate on his statements before the League of Nations Council during the discussion of the Bernheim case, that Spain was friendly to the Jews.

Describing the “lasting love” of the Sephardic Jew for Spain, its language and its culture, the minister declared that this action was the least Spain could do in return, within the limits of international etiquette, and would be to the spiritual interest of all Spanish descendants.
