What will happen to the Jews of Germany following the promulgation of the law depriving them of citizenship in the Reich was graphically outlined by Dr. Gottfried Feder, chief theoretician of the Nazi party and author of the program of Hitler, who is now secretary of the Reich’s Ministry of Economics.
The first result will be the proclaiming of all Jews as aliens in the Reich, Feder asserted, and their consequent subjection to laws governing aliens.
Secondly, Jews, no matter what their length of residence in Germany or the fact that they were born citizens here, will be required to obtain residential permits just as are foreigners and “staatenlose” (men without citizenship in any country.”
Thirdly, Jews will be permitted to reside in Germany only as long as their presence does not affect the labor situation or the food interests of the Germans.
Fourthly, they will be subject to deportation following conviction on any crime, no matter how minor.
Fifthy, they will have to carry documents at all times showing they have permission to reside in Germany.
All these restrictions do not constitute a pogrom against the Jews, Feder asserted, but are merely putting the Jews on an equal footing with “other foreigners.”
SAYS GERMANY MAY KILL
What the Jews in Germany are experiencing today is not actually the full measure of what Germany is justified in doing to the Jews, Reich’s Commissar of Justice Frank declared at a mass meeting of German jurists.
“Germany is justified in doing whatever she wishes to the Jews,” he exclaimed, “including their destruction. And if the Government has not done this, it is due to the spirit of responsibility which the Government carries toward the German nation. But it is not due to outside influence.
“When a million Russians were destroyed by Jews,” he shouted, “no one protested. But when Germany dismissed a single Jewish lawyer, the entire Jewish world raises anti-German propaganda the world over.”
“BOYCOTT JEWISH FIRMS”
New impetus has been given the anti-Semitic war here by a series of developments in the past few weeks, striking at the Jews from many directions.
Among these developments are the recommendation to non-Jewish firms, made in a strong appeal to them, to place their orders with Aryan travelling salesmen and boycott Jewish travellers in order to carry out the slogan, “Germans—buy only from Germans.”
Members of the Nazi Party have been ordered not only to boycott Jewish shops, but also Jewish cafes and restaurants and places patronized by Jews in order to prevent their coming into contact with Jews.
Mass expulsion of Jewish students from the universities is made possible by the instructions of the Prussian Minister of Education to expel not only members of the Communist Party but also anyone suspected of being in sympathy with Communism. Since it is not necessary to prove the allegation of communist sympathies, the mere fact that the charge is made is sufficient to bring about expulsion.
The Voelkische Beobachter, newspaper owned by Adolf Hitler, has renewed violent anti-Semitic agitation after several weeks of chafing at the restraint imposed by the supreme Nazi councils.
