Because the Nazi government has violated the canons of civilization, it stands before the world of science as a noisome and obscene thing, Dr. Jacob Hollander, professor of political economy at the Johns Hopkins University, asserted before the Baltimore branch of the American Jewish Congress at the Southern Hotel. Approximately 450 persons, a large number of them, gentiles, attended.

“Like every sentient being I have been wrung to the depths by the physical atrocities and the spiritual sufferings done to those of my faith in Germany,” he said. “But Jew-baiting has always been the recourse of a degenerate absolutism. If our race has survived through the centuries, it has been because of the cohesive force of persecution.”
