Twelve men who were arrested Sunday in Tel Aviv and the colonies were brought this morning before a British Magistrate in Jaffa and charged with illegally being members of an association called the “Zionim Meapchanim,” or B’rith Biryonim, alleged revolutionary Zionist League. The Magistrate granted the police the custody of the men for two weeks in order to give them time to compile evidence.
More than twenty Revisionists and B’rith Trumpeldorites were arrested in various parts of Palestine on Sunday. Ten men were seized in this city, but eight were released after a cursory examination. Two men, Svurai, on whom a revolver was found, and Orenstein, were sent to jail in Jaffa.
Svurai and Orenstein were arraigned today before a magistrate and were ordered detained for two weeks while police prepared evidence in connection with the two charges on which they were held, possession of a revolver and membership in an illegal association.
Zvi Rosenblatt of Kfarsaba, one of the group arrested Sunday, and whose description is said to tally with that of one of the two men who assassinated Dr. Chaim Arlosoroff, head of the political department of the Jewish Agency, on the night of June 16 at Tel Aviv, was taken last night to be confronted by Mrs. Arlosoroff who witnessed her husband’s murder. It could not be learned whether or not she identified him as one of the pair.
Rosenblatt is said to have denied any knowledge of the crime and to have insisted that he spent the night of the murder at Kfarsaba.
During Sunday’s raid the police searched the house of Avniele and confiscated archives belonging to the Revisionist’s headquarters. Avniele had been the secretary of the Revisionists since 1931.
