Jew Elected to Brazil’s Constitutional Assembly

Dr. Horacio Lafer, well known Jewish industrialist and leader of the Association Commercial, was elected deputy to the National Constitutional Assembly in a special election held here.

Dr. Lafer lives in Sao Paulo, where he is prominent in the paper industry and in the politics of the State of Sao Paulo. He also plays an important part in national politics, having been Brazilian ambassador to Switzerland in 1930.

Dr. Lafer is active in Jewish affairs. For some time he was the official head of the Sao Paulo Hebrew High School “Hatechiah” and at present is at the head of the movement to aid the German Jews.

The news of Dr. Lafer’s election was favorably received in all the Jewish settlements in Brazil, where Dr. Lafer is well known and loved.
