Magistrate Maurice H. Gottlieb, 66 years old, died yesterday at his home, 57 East 88th Street, of heart disease, after having been confined in bed for many months. He had been a magistrate since 1926 when he was appointed by Mayor James J. Walker.
In the Magistrate’s Court, his work was notable for his charitable attitude toward petty crimes induced by poverty. He organized the Bricken Fund, a revolving fund for making loans to the poor and was active in other charitable ventures.
