Germany undertakes to give preferential rates to Palestine oranges over the Spanish product in exchange for which the Palestinian representatives have agreed to purchase double the amount in German goods of the oranges exported to Germany.
The announcement of the negotiations between the Palestine orange growers and the Nazi representatives aroused a storm of protest at the World Zionist Congress, when they were first announced by the Nazi authorities. Zionist leaders denied the truth of reports that they were involved in the negotiations, and officials of the Palestine Government and the British Colonial Office declared that they knew nothing of the reported deals.
In the United States, Samuel Untermyer, head of the boycott movement, characterized the story as an attempt to discredit the boycott against Germany and sent a cable to the Zionist Congress protesting against the deal.
