Announcement is made that the Jewish pageant, “The Romance of a People”, will be presented at the 258th Field Artillery Armory, Jerome Avenue and Kingsbridge Road, beginning Saturday evening, September 23.
The pageant which was scheduled to open at the Polo Grounds Thursday and was postponed on account of the weather, received such widespread support that present plans call for nightly performances lasting possibly all of next week. It is estimated that about 35,000 persons will attend each presentation at the Armory, which is the largest in the world.
The task of removing the enormous stage that was set up at the Polo Grounds for the affair is under way. Workmen under the direction of Peter Clark, stage designer, are taking down the sound amplification apparatus and light equipment which will be transferred to the Armory at once.
Governor Herbert H. Lehman’s cooperation made possible the use of the Armory where National Guard drills have been called off until after the conclusion of the pageant. All tickets purchased for the show will be honored.
