The Chicago Daily News came out today squarely backing its former German correspondent, Edgar Ansell Mowrer, on charges of alleged misrepresentations in dispatches which were published in The News.
Dr. R. L. Jaeger, acting German consul general in Chicago, wrote a protest against the correspondence of Mowrer, who last year was awarded a Pulitzer prize for reporting, decaring in effect that Mowrer’s dispatches were “erroneous and contrary to reports received from Germany.”
The News’ reply praised Mowrer’s writing and said that the reporter had “an enviable record for discernment and veracity.”
