The Jewish Daily Bulletin learned yesterday through the Immigration Office at Ellis Island that Heinz Spanknoebel, Nazi propagandist in the United States, was not an American citizen when he returned to this country last July.
“According to our records, Mr. Spanknoebel had not become a citizen when he came here four months ago,” immigration officials declared.
Their statement explodes Spanknoebel’s frequently-asserted contention that he is a citizen of the United States. The Nazi agent declares he has lived on American soil three-and-a-half years. Normally, the process of becoming a citizen requires five years’ residence in the country.
German officials at the German embassy in Washington, at the German Consulate in New York, and at Nazi Party headquarters in Berlin were quoted yesterday as denying Spanknoebel’s representation of the National Socialist Party.
