Before a body of about 350 ardent Nazi sympathizers of both sexes, Fritz Gissibl, one of the party leaders in the United States, affirmed that the object of the Friends of New Germany is not to establish a Nazi political party but to combat anti-Nazi propaganda in America. The swastika hung from the walls of the Reichs Halle in the North Side of the city, where the meeting was held last night. Not an inconsiderable number present wore Nazi uniforms.
The Heil Hitler salutation and the singing of the Horst Wessel song indicated with what degree of sympathy those present view the political platforms now in sway in the fatherland. Similar meetings are held on Wednesday and Saturday of each week. Last night’s attendance was the largest to date.
Although no public mention was made of the fact, it is the general feeling here that the purpose of Gissibl’s tour throughout the nation is to soft-pedal the activities of the Nazi organizations. It is reliably reported here that the Congressional investigation planned by Representative Samuel Dickstein of New York into Nazi activities in the United States, has caused consternation among the party leaders.
