A numerus clausus for the legal profession, including professors and law students, was demanded here today by Gustave Ranzenhofer, judge of the Austrian high court, in an address delivered to the Austrian artisans union. He declared that it was essential to check Jewish influence in public life.
Judge Ranzenhofer was frequently interrupted by shouts from the floor and questions as to how a judge of the highest court in Austria could publicly preach anti-constitutional racial discrimination.
Importance is attached here not only to the speech, but to the added fact that the president of the high court and the Austrian Attorney General were present at the lecture, and did not utter a single word of protest.
